Hey William,
Could you shoot me an email? I want to ask you a few things and I don’t have your email.
Thanks a lot,
Travis
Could you answer this question for me?
When a person mentions a Yankee doing something in his Yankee pinstripes, does it mean he did it in Yankee Stadium, because they only wear their pinstripes at home in Yankee Stadium.
For example, C.C. struck out 22 batters, setting a new MLB record for SO’s in a game, it’s the second time he has struck out 20 or more batters in his Yankee pinstripes. You would know both of those games were at Yankee Stadium because he doesn’t wear pinstripes in away parks.
Can you give the Mick back his missing homerun?
Final HR Totals
Roger Maris (1961) – 61
Babe Ruth (1927) – 60
Mickey Mantle (1961) – 53
Thanks.
Hey William….
Boras wants a contract for Robbie now.
We need some good analysis from you on the situation.
I think it would be crazy for the Yanks to do anything but stay pat.

Hello, William Juliano:
I cover the Phillies and I’m trying to make sense of the competitive-balance tax. You seem to know the ins and outs. Can I, please, ask you a few questions?
I’m assuming that players who are on the 25-man roster for 2 months have their $.48M prorated accordingly.
Are there incidents where some players are scored one way and other players are scored another way, like Boston did with Scutaro? Or are they all scored the same as a rule? If they are different, is there a way to tell on Cots?
Buyouts seem to change things in some cases.
Do player options alter the AAV?
If an under-contract player is traded, he has a 2-year deal at $8M with a $.5M buyout, and his new club pays only $2M of his 2nd season. That’s $8.5M or a $4.225 AAV. Do you figure $2M or $2.113M? Or does the new team figure $2.5M? Or is that in the trade agreement and can be either?
Is spring training money counted?
If a player has an MLB deal but is in the minors, does his salary count against the AAV?
When there is a new contract that is not an extension, the new deal kicks in after the prior deal is completed. Are there 2 AAV’s? X$ AAV for the 2 years on deal 1, and X$ for the 5 years on deal 2. Is that how it works.
I appreciate your assistance.
Thnx,
Tal
Hey there,
I can answer most of your questions, but please send them to me via email.
William – I am trying to find a list of average MLB attendance from 1990-present but am having no luck. I was wondering if you had those numbers and/or can advise.
William, just came across this site when looking for breakdown of called strike 3 vs. swinging. Saw your latest info is 2013 and you got it from bbref. I searched there and cannot find it. Can you send me link or direct me ?
Thanks, Ed
Hello Ed,
That info is available using the Event Finder tool on BR.com, but you need a Play Index subscription to access the data. If you have one, just run a report for strike outs from the batting event page, download the data into a spreadsheet and use a pivot table to sort out the looking from the swinging.
Hello, William.
I saw an article back a couple years ago regarding the MLB having a sweet spot for average runs scored. The article said there was a happy medium that would require a rule change if it increased or decreased to favor either hitters or pitchers too much.
I wonder if you know where I can find that data.
Also, do you know where I can locate the number of different lineups per teams for 2018?
Thanks,
Tal
